Everton- Olympique Lyonnais 10/19/17

Everton and Lyon played the third round of the Europa League Group Stage on a cloudy night at Goodison Park. Both teams lined-up in a 4–2–3–1 formation.

Everton- Lyon

1st Half

Lyon got off to a fast start after Mason Holgate brought down Memphis Depay in the box and Nabil Fekir converted the subsequent penalty. In the 36th minute Depay hit the crossbar after his shot was deflected. Lyon created multiple chances in transition in the 1st half.

Davy Klaassen’s shot was saved in the 40th minute; Everton began to create more opportunities fifteen minute before halftime.

2nd Half

Ashley Williams leveled the match in the 70th minute after heading in substitute Gylfi Sigurðsson’s free-kick.

In the 72nd minute another Sigurðsson free-kick hit the post.

In the 75th minute Bertrand Traoré back-heeled Lyon back into the lead as the visitors held on to win.

Conclusion

Lyon will be pleased to win away at Everton. Everton will be concerned with their form considering they are bottom of their Europa League group with 1 point and 16th in the Premier League.
