Good Luck on your Midterms

With midterms around the corner, we would like to share some tips to get through midterms:

1.Don’t procrastinate — Do not wait until the day before the midterm to start studying. Instead start few days earlier so that you can spend your last day on reviewing the most important material for the exam. It is also a great idea to stop at the professor’s office during office hours to discuss about relevant topics. You will be surprised as to how much a professor is willing to share.

2. Take small breaks — In order to stay focused, we should take a 5 to 10 minute break every hour to recharge ourselves by listening to music or going for a walk. This helps us to concentrate better than a 10-hour sprint session that will do nothing but make us crazy.

3. Review Session — Even if you are tempted to skip the review session to spend the time studying for the exam, you should attend the review session before midterms because the professor covers the main exam topics, exam style and sometimes also hints some of the questions that appear on the examination. Review sessions also make us realize how well we understand the topics so far.

4. Social Media and phone- Research shows that we spend about 8 hours everyday on the phone. During this time, we should try to stay away from social media and our phone because if our phone is with us we unconsciously en up using it and wasting our valuable time.

5. Take care of your health — During midterms, make sure that you are not skipping meals and are eating healthy. Try to eat fruits and leafy vegetables that contain important vitamins and proteins to concentrate in our work. And always drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. Make sure you carry water bottle to the examination.

6. Write what you study — Do not try to read the entire book on the last day. Just go through the most important topics discussed in class and write them down. When we read and memorize something, we should always write it down. As many of you may have experienced, when we try to write something we just read, we forget parts of what we just read. Therefore, writing for memorizing really works.

Remember that “Tough times don’t last, but tough people do.” Good luck on your midterms
