Indo-Japanese Dinner by Akash Zaveri

This Friday, February 12th,2016, our chef, Akash Zaveri, a fourth year business student at Northeastern University is hosting a three course Indo-Japanese dinner at 7PM. Being a native from Mumbai, India and brought up in Kobe-Shi, Hyogo, Japan; Akash has been exposed to both Indian and Japanese cultures and has a keen interest in cooking.

He is a well seasoned chef with experience in both the culinary arts of preparing Indian and Japanese dishes. His ability to fuse the two to surprise the pallet is next to extraordinary.

In his three course meal which he is hosting for five people, he is serving “Pav Bhaji” and a couple surprises. “Pav Bhaji” which originates from Mumbai, India during 1850’s is consisting of vegetable curry served with soft bread roll. The vegetables that are usually added are cauliflower, potatoes, carrots, peas, capsicum and French beans.

While ‘Bhaji’ is a traditional Indian name for vegetable dish, the ‘Pav’ or ‘Pao’ or ‘Pau’ was the Portuguese word for bread or small rolls introduced by them when they came to India for trade in Bombay (now Mumbai) during the 18th Century.

We look forward to welcome you at the dinner.
