Inevitable Revolution
If you’ve been following astrology for a while, you know that the Uranus-Pluto square has been with us for several years. The final exact square was last March, but because Uranus spent a good part of last year retrograding, the two planets came very close to exact again last month. And now the square is being triggered by Mercury and Pluto. So any themes around personal and collective revolution, evolution, and freedom are likely to be potent these days.
The personal: what do you need to do to be free? What ideas or habits have you adopted from your family or culture, that don’t necessarily serve you? What do you do just because that’s how things are done? Do you feel compelled to get married, buy a house, have a family and so on, just because that’s what’s expected? There is, of course, nothing wrong with any of those things. But if we can be conscious in our decisions, so that we act according to our own values, rather than doing what’s expected, then we will have greater freedom.
The collective: some people fear revolution, perhaps because it is associated with violence, or simply because change is uncomfortable. Others idealize revolution and think it will necessarily solve all our problems. Revolution will happen one way or another: the question is what will the revolution look like, and who will it serve?
The personal and the collective: many different versions of revolution are possible. Many different futures are possible. What can each of us do to encourage a future with greater justice and freedom? Revolution of the social order requires revolution on an inner level. How do we need to transform ourselves in order to transform the collective? What kind of world do you want to live in, and how do you need to change yourself in order to make that possible?
The influence of Pluto this week and last can bring violent or unexpected upwellings of intense hatred, anger, and grief, from within or without, showing us deeply embedded complexes that are usually repressed for our protection. But witnessing the truth of the underworld is necessary for personal and collective transformation. Hold yourself with compassion. When we can contain our own intensity, when we can witness our own pain/anger/hatred/resentment without judgement, without trying to change, that’s when real transformation can take place.

A note to regular readers: my sincere apologies for disappearing. I started grad school in September, and after several years of not being in school, well, I’d forgotten how all-consuming school can be! So, needless to say, by the end of the semester, deadlines caught up with me, and Mystic Sandwich got sidelined. But I’m still here! I’m going to continue to post, but perhaps a little sporadically until I’m done my degree. I will be doing readings as well, but mostly starting in April, and throughout the summer. To reserve your space for a reading, send me a message at Mysticsandwichandy@gmail.com. There are several price options, plus I love to barter, so hopefully there’s something for everyone.
