Nebraska Democrats, Let’s Get Ready to Caucus!
It’s coming! The #NEDemCaucus is less than a week away and the NDP is expecting you and we want to make sure you are ready.

On March 5th, Democrats across the state of Nebraska will come together to celebrate the past eight years of accomplishments (#thanksObama) and to select our next president.

If you have not previously caucused, don’t you fret, we’ve answered all your questions so you’ll be set.

When’s the caucus?
Nebraska’s Democrats will caucus across the state on Saturday, March 5th, 2016. The time varies depending on where you are. You want to make sure to try and be there a half hour before your start time to get registered and checked in.

Okay, so where’s my caucus?
That’s a great question, you can figure that out very easily by just typing your address in here:

Can I just register on the day of?
Yes! You can register as a Democrat at the caucus to join in voicing your opinion!
Do I need to bring anything?
Nope, just bring yourself and your enthusiasm to caucus!

So what exactly is a caucus?
A caucus is a gathering of neighbors, where Democrats meet to conduct party business and declare their Presidential preference.
How does a caucus work?
Eligible caucus goers divide to form Presidential preference groups — simply by standing in a section of the room devoted to their candidate. If a preference group for a candidate does not have enough people to be “viable,” caucus-goers will have an opportunity to join another preference group or acquire people into their group to become viable. Delegates are then awarded to the final preference groups based on their size.
What does a caucus look like?
There is a lot of debating and moving around. It is democracy in action. The caucuses are volunteer-run, and we expect a lot of lively dialogue between caucus-goers on March 5th!

How long will it take?
It will vary in each location — depending on how many people attend, and how many times caucus-goers align and realign. A general rule is one hour to form presidential preference groups, but it can be a shorter or longer amount of time.
The only thing left to do is for you to show up on March 5 and make your voice be heard!
