Baby

Baby is a team of secret agents headed by Feroz Khan (Danny Denzongpa). Formed in response to 2008 Mumbai attacks, the team’s job is to monitor terrorists planning an attack and eliminate them. They manage to foil an imminent attack, but get information that it was just one of the many to come. To counter and neutralize these threats, the team must go to Saud Al Dera, where the terrorists are planning to meet and hatch a plot. Exciting and engaging, this was one of the good movies based on terrorism, in Bollywood.

NH10

Meera (Anushka Sharma) and Arjun (Neil Bhoopalam) plan a road trip on their first anniversary and take the NH 10. But soon their dreams of a vacation evaporate as they encounter some goons and witness a honor killing of an eloping couple. A violence soaked two hours, the movie shows all that is wrong with honor killings and how Meera’s life takes a turn for the worst by just being at the wrong place at a wrong time.

Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!

Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay’s character come to life in the mystery thriller as the detective goes looking for a friend’s missing father. All clues lead to a politician and Byomkesh is pretty certain of the catch. But the prime suspect is killed too. Narrated in the backdrop of Second World War and an imminent Japanese invasion, the movie is definitely a must-watch.

Piku

Piku is not only one of the best performers at the box office, it is an endearing movie. Directed by Shoojit Sircar, the movie reminds one of Hrishikesh Mukherji movies of the 60s and 70s. The Comedy-Drama follows the title character Piku (Deepika Padukone) who is stretched mentally and physically juggling everyday life with her eccentric father. She finds companionship when they decide to travel by road to Kolkata from Delhi to sell their ancestral property in Kolkata. You can’t miss this one.

Dil Dhadakne Do

Shot with an ensemble cast, the comedy-drama follows a dysfunctional Punjabi family and their friends on a cruise liner, as they celebrate the 30 wedding anniversary of the Mehras. A business on the verge of bankruptcy, a troubled married life, confused kids, the movie has perfect storm cooking from the minute the ship sails. A fast paced drama with a number of characters that will keep you busy through the two plus hours, you will enjoy this sea vacation.

BaahuBali: The Beginning

This was a big surprise of 2015. Even for those who were looking forward to the movie, it surpassed all expectations. One of the few historical fictions in the Indian film industry executed with amazing finesse, the movie follows the story of a prince, a rightful heir who is smuggled out of the ancient kingdom of Mahishmati to escape from the wrath of evil Bhallala Deva.

Good story, excellent performances, breathtaking action mark this phenomenal movie. With the next version, BaahuBali: The Conclusion, releasing in 2017, you still have time to catch up.

Drishyam

Drishyam is set in modern day Goa and explores various sexual crime related issues like voyeurism and blackmail and the social stigma associated with it. What happens when a common man loses faith in the justice system and the perpetrator is the son of the law enforcement. The movie tells a story of perfect murder, as the father of the victim protects his family from prosecution and persecution.

An intense two plus hours, the movie will keep you on the edge of your seat as you root for Vijay Salgaonkar.

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo

One of the many successful movies Salman Khan has given us in recent years, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is a throwback at the 70s Family Drama movies. Family fueds, double roles, and romance, the movie has all the elements of a blockbuster entertainer that you will love. If you have missed this one, it is an excellent choice for a family movie night or an elaborate Sunday lunch.

Bajirao Mastani

Bajirao Mastani is a fictional account of the life of Peshwe Bajirao I and Mastani, his love and relationship dynamics between them and his wife, Kashibai. The romance blooms in the background of Mughal invasions and wars as the Maratha warrior captures most of the Indian sub-continent. The years of Bajirao I where the golden years of the Maratha empire which are also communicated in the movie.

Dum Laga ke Haisha

This Romantic-Comedy was another big surprise of 2015. The Ayushmann Khurana and Bhumi Pednekar starrer will win your hearts. Flawless performances by both actors bring alive a simple love story. Prem Prakash Tiwari and Sandhya discover romance after they are forced into marriage. The movie was nominated for various Filmfare Awards, and won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film.
