If This Isn’t Nice, What Is?

Indeed, happiness is oft times found in the little things and given to me in small, sometimes immeasurable ways, but I’ve come to embrace my moments of failure, as well. Louis C.K. has made me understand some things about failure, too.

Some time back, he was speaking about the types of things he wanted to create and he said something along the lines of, "I want to make a thing where a guy tries to get the girl and fails. He tries to get the job and fails. Then he tries to get things right and still fails. And then at the end he’s just really sad."

I’m going to fail. I have before (many times) and I’m going to continue failing. But for a few years now I’ve been viewing it much differently, or at least I try very hard to view it with a positive bend. Not ritualistically, after things don’t go my way, I pause to assess the damage to my ego and I account for the things that remain… and I try to smile. And then when I’m done trying, I actually smile.
