I’ve lived in many parts of the country. In good and bad neighborhoods. Lower and middle incomes, every kind of population demographics that exist in the US. Been there, lived next to it.
I’ve come to one conclusion about ‘crime’. When people are working, they do not have time for crime. When people do not have access to jobs, crime is an easy way to pass the time.
The best way to fight crime, is to get kids who are turning into dropouts into vocational programs. Most teenage boys dig cars. Get them into a shop class. No surprise that most major metro areas have ‘no money’ for such ‘extras’ but have plenty of money for all the latest cop gear.
While I lived in East Oakland I watched as they closed one school after another. Forcing kids into denser, more aggravating classrooms where little learning is possible. At the same time pouring more money into hiring cops, who are largely not from Oakland. And more money towards poorly conceived and badly executed crime fighting measures.
