This is what a lot of people do not get. The vast majority of the Confederate statues do not reside on the spot of an important battle. Nor do they memorialize a local son who died in some heroic act.

For example, Lee Circle in New Orleans. Lee is not from New Orleans. There was no battle fought at that site during the Civil War. New Orleans was under blockade at the start of the war, captured early on, but was not a site of any battles. Lee Circle was just an assertion of white supremacy in a majority African American city.

Likewise for the many monuments in states like Ohio, New York and so on.
