SPECOM 19 begins August 20 in Istanbul, Turkey.

NTENT Senior Computational Linguist, Liliya Tsyrulnik, will present a research paper she co-authored titled, Singing Voice Database, at the 21st International Conference on Speech and Computer happening August 20–25, 2019 in Istanbul, Turkey. The paper details a database she developed together with Music Professor Shlomo Dubnov during her time as a visiting scholar at the University of California, San Diego division of the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology. The presentation will happen on Friday, August 23.

The Singing Voice Database was designed to improve Singing Voice Synthesis (SVS); software that uses text and musical notes to synthesize an on-key singing voice. Originally developed for text-to-speech synthesis, the software was enhanced by new signal processing algorithms for synthesizing and changing the pitch of speech-based sounds to yield natural-sounding singing voices. SVS software can potentially be used to train amateur singers or digitally enhance human voices.

The International Conference on Speech and Computer (SPECOM) attracts researchers in the area of intelligent and cyber-physical environments, multimodal interfaces and applied systems for telecommunication, computer speech processing, and robotics. Different aspects of singing voice and speech processing are among the topics that will be discussed at the conference.

The implementation of speech processing and conversational user interface for various applications are becoming more and more useful. By the year 2020, 50% of all web searches will use voice. It’s expected that 143M voice-enabled remote controls and 126M smart speakers will be on the market by 2022.

Liliya Tsyrulnik works in research and development for NTENT. She also does programming implementation of different NLP projects for English and Russian languages.
