Pictures of the Week July 29th — August 4th
Insufficient Fare
Each week, our Mayoral photography team sets out to document City Hall and New York City in the most interesting way possible. Our Director of Photography, Mike Appleton, made a selection from all the photos filed last week and we asked you to choose your favorite:

How many times have you tried to pass through the turnstiles only to see the words “Insufficient Fare” pop up, mocking you as you hear your train pull into the station below? Well, it happens to the Mayor too! This week’s favorite was a moment captured by photographer Ed Reed during a subway ride in-between Mayoral events.
As mentioned in earlier posts, our photographers are used to shooting similar events in the same settings on a pretty regular basis. In-between moments like the one Reed caught here are precious as they allow our photographers to show the Mayor outside of his usual, hyper-political context. These images are valuable for creating visual variety in the mayoral archive, as well as chronicling the condition of New York City during this period in history and during the Mayor’s time in office.
