Cuba, Japan Strengthen Cooperation in Energy Sector

Cuban Energy and Mines Minister, Alfredo Lopez Valdes, who is today on a working visit to Japan, called for expanding cooperation between the two countries in this sector.

The Caribbean island minister, who concludes his tour on Jan. 27, was received by Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Tsuneo Kitamura, with whom he held a fruitful meeting.

Both sides confirmed the good progress of the bilateral relations, the opening opportunities in the economic and trade ties, especially in the energy sector, and expressed the two governments’ willingness to join efforts to broaden and deepen ties between the two countries.

According to reports from the Cuban embassy in that nation, Lopez spoke with officials from the Japan International Cooperation Agency, at a time in which he reviewed the collaboration projects that in the field of energy the two territories are developing, through the Japan-Cuba Economic Conference and its energy subcommittee, recently established between the two sides.

The Cuban minister also met with representatives of major Japanese companies related to the energy sector, who work with Havana in many projects of this branch, and visited some of its major facilities located in Fukushima and Ibaraki.
