MLB Dropped the ball

Where was the tribute for Tony Gwynn

MLB dropped the ball (no pun intended) big time during this weeks All Star game. They failed to recognize or pay tribute to Tony Gwynn aka Mr. Padre. They failed to even mention his name during the game or broadcast. Not once was his name mentioned, why would MLB pass up an opportunity to pay tribute to an all around great player. Why not do it at the All Star game, where they payed tribute to George Steinbrenner when he died the day before the game in 2010. MLB made sure that he was saluted in the pre game ceremony that year. So where was the tribute for Gwynn and maybe another former player who passed earlier this season Don Zimmer. Zim was a great embassador for the game and he was not mentioned to. The only nod to Zim was the patch the Tampa Bay Rays pitcher David Price wore on his jersey.

MLB failed to pay tribute to two great men on Tuesday during a game when more people were watching because Derek Jeter was playing in his last ever game before he retires at the end of the season. Here was a great opportunity to honor two great men, yet the league blew it big time. The whoel game was about Derek Jeter and please do not get me wrong I love the man. I am a huge Yankees fan and baseball fan because of him. All MLB had to do was make a quick video or something honor Gwynn and Zim, they could have done that without taking anything away from Jeter. If that is why they neglected to honor Gwynn and Zim. The MLB needs to make sure that they honor Gwynn and Zim during the World Series or they will face more backlash.
