The Other ‘Madness’

D’Angelo Russell, Justise Winslow, Devin Booker, Emmanuel Mudiay, Myles Turner. Those are some of the top prospects from the 2015 NBA Draft who might have been taken last night if the NBA age minimum was 20 years old (the rule stipulates that a player is eligible for the draft if he comes of age within the calendar year). Imagine adding those guys to the top prospects this year under the same rule — sorry, Brandon Ingram: Buddy Hield, Kris Dunn, Jaylen Brown, Domantas Sabonis, Denzel Valentine…

Adam Silver needs to get this done yesterday. Can we have Danny Ainge run point on lobbying?

And yes, we know all the arguments for how the college game would vastly improve upon the age minimum being increased one measly year and how the wait would better the vast majority of players yada yada yada... that’s not the point of this internet ink.

Rather, here’s what last night’s first twelve selections might have been:

  1. Ben Simmons
  2. D’Angelo Russell
  3. Justise Winslow
  4. Myles Turner
  5. Kris Dunn
  6. Emmanuel Mudiay
  7. Buddy Hield
  8. Domantas Sabonis
  9. Jaylen Brown
  10. Jakob Poeltl
  11. Denzel Valentine
  12. Devin Booker

Given, this scenario doesn’t take into account who teams would have taken based on need because it requires distorting the fabric of time! However, it does make for a much deeper draft and Celtics fans not wanting to hang themselves from the Barclays Center rafters. Kings fans still will though.

Alright, Mr. Silver, we — and Danny — are counting on you.
