People dehumanize each other so that they don’t have to think about or be concerned about one another.

I think they also dehumanize others to create a shortcut to decisive action, as in war, when you must obey orders and commit unspeakable acts without thinking about them. Indeed, this is just as you say. If I don’t have to consider your thoughts and feelings, I can do or say anything without vetting it first to make sure I’m being civil to another human being. Like being talked at instead of talked to. Yeah, that sounds like the internet, all right! ;=)
