All Things
2 Peter 1:1–3, “Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:”
At the beginning of his second letter Peter makes it clear to us with the Lord we have everything we need which pertains unto life and godliness. All we need comes through our knowledge of the Lord Jesus who called us to glory and virtue. Many people may think this only applies to salvation or spiritual blessings, but I think it goes beyond just the spiritual realm. The most important thing, of course, is salvation and eternal life. However, I believe the Lord also cares for our current situation and meets us right where we are at every day.
He gave us all things which pertain to life and godliness. The Lord is our provider and he gives us everything we need. Another promise from the Lord is Matthew 6:33, “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these other things will be added unto you.” These “other things” are the material and physical needed to live in this present world. The Lord not only takes care for our spirit but also for the body. The Apostle Paul made it clear in his letters the Lord is for the body as well as the spirit.
Our need is met through our knowledge of the Lord Jesus. When a man walks with the Lord, he has everything needed for this life. He can truly rest in the knowledge as he seeks the Lord all of his needs will be met. Our work is to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ whom God the Father sent into this world. This is our work: to believe in Jesus and to seek him daily.
As we believe and stand upon the completed work of Jesus Christ we experience his work in our lives. Faith comes first; then comes experience. Experience comes as the Holy Spirit applies the work of the Lord Jesus Christ to our lives. What was and is true of the Lord Jesus also is real in our everyday life experiences. This becomes more apparent as the world recognizes who you are and treat you in the same way they treated the Lord Jesus.
David said in Psalm 37:25 , “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.”
Also, in Psalm 34:10, “The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing.”
We can trust in the Lord. He is our help and our provider. The Lord is our protector. Cast all of your cares upon him, because he cares for us. Amen.
