Practicing happiness to boost your success

Positive thinking is a psychological and emotional behavior with which a person emphases on the bright side of life and expects optimistic results. Positive thinking is good for our health, mind and most important for our happiness. On the other hand negativity is a thought with which people focuses on the dim side of the life but we can overcome it and learn to think positively.

When I completed my b.com I wanted to get admission at Hailey College of Banking and Finance, University of the Punjab. I gave the test for morning program but I secured low marks in that test so I wasn’t selected. There was no option left with me to get admission in any other department of Punjab University. I was very depressed in those days. Then idea of getting admission in evening program came to my mind. When I asked for evening timings from admin department, I was shocked to listen that timings are 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. I started thinking negatively that my parents will never give me permission for evening program with that timings so it’s not a good idea. Now what should I do. Then one of my friends persuaded me to talk about this issue with my parents. At first I talked to my mother. My mother was of the opinion that my father will not going to permit me so she said if your father permit you then you can get admission there but I am not going to help you in taking permission from him. I was again disappointed and discouraged after talking to my mother. It was sure that he will not give me permission so it’s unbeneficial for me to talk to him. But courageously, finally I talked to my father and surprisingly I got permission from him so easily. I remember he didn’t say a single word about timings. I gave the test for evening program and got selected. By the grace of Allah, now I am a student at Hailey.

We shouldn’t think negatively but it’s true that negative thoughts are uninvited. So we must learn to overcome it. We can overcome it by practicing some steps suggested by Shawn Anchor. I would like to add hear 2 of some steps which I have practiced with week. They are:

Gratitude

Random Acts of Kindness

The benefits of practicing gratitude are endless. We must write down 4–5 things that we are grateful each day and when we express gratitude, suddenly we fell less alone. Random acts of kindness are also helpful in boosting happiness. Kindness can lead us wherever we want to go. Kindness is important because it broadens life’s frame. I will keep practicing above steps.
