Autism in Females; I think I am on the Spectrum

On my journey of self recovery, healing and self awareness, recently I have been learning about autism in females. Everything I learn (all of this is online) including people’s experiences who are on the spectrum, autism specialists (I’m not sure what to call these, as really it is the people who are on the spectrum who are actually the specialists), and organisations, the more my experiences make sense to me. I have watched lots of videos, read many research and blog articles, and seem to gain a clearer understanding about myself. Throughout my life, I have never understood myself, such as some of my choices, actions, behaviours, thoughts, and feelings, etc. Inside, my emotions and thoughts are so strong, they are constantly racing in my head, they are overwhelming, but it is difficult for these to form in a logical and coherent manner, for me to comprehend, and for others to understand.

Recently watching ‘Autism in Females’ by Tony Attwood, Professor of Autism, I created a checklist of the traits he discusses in the video, gaining a score of 36 out of 37. I added three more traits, that he had not mentioned, and the trait of perseveration is what I seem to have been doing for the past 20 years of my life.
