And neither is a ‘rape’ that did not happen.
The penultimate panel reads: “Then we will reap all the benefits of women who accuse men of rape”. The denouement is them all looking nonplussed at this proposition.
It does NOT say “We will reap all the benefits of women who accuse BILL COSBY of rape”.
Maybe I can put it this way:
When a rape occurs there is a victim and a perpetrator. This is why most people find ‘jokes’ like: ‘9 out of 10 people enjoy gang rape.’ to be offensive as any ‘humor’ comes directly at the expense of the victims of rape and trivialises their experience. Except in particularly unusual circumstances, the teller of such a ‘joke’ is fully aware of, and perhaps even revelling in, this knowledge.
When a false rape accusation occurs, there is also a victim and a perpetrator. In some cases, arguably, with far more serious consequences. Your cartoon, with the wording you use, comes at the expense of the victims here as well and trivialises their experience too.
Perhaps you know this and find it funny. I’ll happily accept that you may simply be guilty of bad taste. Fair enough, free speech and all that, but you should then be unsurprised by critique. The fact that you try to defend it as not offensive is telling here.
Sadly, however, you are increasingly coming across as someone who is both unaware that it is offensive, and thus in need of having this pointed out as politely as possible, and also that the cartoon’s premise is demonstrably faulty, as already outlined.
I assure you, I do not consider this discussion ‘theoretical’ in the least. You have so far, during it, derided me for providing links to supporting evidence, and are now coming across like you think being ‘logical’, theoretical or otherwise, is to be avoided. Because… reasons?
I may have given you too much credit…
