For me, Happiness at work is indeed not something organisations should “provide” like you said, but I do think organisations are responsible for creating the environment that enables and allows people to be happy. However people define their “happy”. Like Daniel Pink wrote in his book Drive: mastery, autonomy and purpose are the essential ingredients for a happy worklife. I agree individuals are also responsible for knowing what they want and how they work and feel and improving their skills set but organisations play a huge part in setting the conditions for that to happen. I personally feel a forth ingredient needs to be added to the list of Daniel Pink, being “connectedness”. It’s an important factor to people’s happiness to have good relationships with people at work, to have trust and feel connected and belonging.
