Dev using a Mac: The Prequel
When I was a youngster, my uncle gifted me and my sister a hand-me-down PC. I can’t exactly remember the specs, but I do remember it ran Windows 3.1. This thoughtful gift likely helped shape my life, as I assume this was the gift’s intent. Thanks uncle.
As life went on, I continued to tinker in the Windows environment for work and pleasure up until Vista. In 2011, I struck a deal with an acquaintance where I traded my Toshiba Laptop plus some cash for his MacBook Air as I needed a machine that could reliably run Serato software. I had spend most my life as an Apple-hater. I’ve since evolved into an Apple-agnostic and now an Apple-embracer.
In the years 2011–2016 I really only bothered learning on OSX what I needed to navigate files, browse the web, and occasionally get connected to or troubleshoot a network. I primarily used my machine for web-browsing and word-processing. Now, in 2017, as I’m getting very jazzed about mastering the latests web-development tools, I regret not taking the time to learn the ins and outs of my Mac. Also, I haven’t been very diligent about keeping up-to-date on software updates (more on that to come).
