Day 30 — Learning
As I fumble into adulthood I find it hard to learn new things. Nothing has really prepared me for life, it all just kinda happened.
So I’m enjoying figuring things out for myself and learning stuff as I go along. When I first moved into my flat, I didn’t know how bills were paid, how council tax worked. I just knew that I didn’t want any of those things to hit me in the face like the electricity running out while I’m playing Xbox. That’s not the one.
So I continue to stumble through things and on Monday I found myself deep into YouTube watching baby swimming lessons. I teach adult and baby lessons each Monday and Sunday but have been thinking about how I can have better sessions. I spent my whole morning checking new techniques out and got really excited to put them in practice for my lessons.
The videos looked at new holds for the babies and movement techniques for the parents. With teaching, I hide a lot of the technical stuff from students with fun language and the lesson on Monday were no different. It was a great session and all the parents and babies had a great time.
I felt good. I had learned something new and actually put it into practice.
My point from this is that we (well, I did) get brought up in education. Our hands are held for so long. Yet I feel like I only started to really learn once I left school.
