I think this post is a bit extreme and overly dramatic. We get it, great products are informed by a collective of diverse perspectives. In this case, I think you are simply over reacting to something harmless and let alone.. meaningless!
As an African American, I don’t happen to find the bob Marley filter offensives. It’s simply a digital mask — much like the ones of Obama or Bernie you’ find at places like Walmart or Target around Halloween. (In this case 4/20) ..So ask yourself, should kids only wear Bernie mask if they’re white and Obama’s if they are back?
Stop projecting your own interpretation of thing on to everyone. You are making the internet a more cynical place than it already is. I for once think it’s better to write or talk about more of the things we like. It has a way of filtering out the bad and in turn make everyone else in the space better. If you don’t like a product, move on without feeling the need to tear it apart.
I think snapchat is far from perfect, but I do believe in the value of giving a company feedback through channels that are constructive and private. Don’t ruin it for everyone else just because you found something that didn’t align with your view point. I’m convinced that snapchat does more good each day for people who use it than it offends them.
