The Biggest RSS Meet at Pune: Startling Silence on #PathankotAttack
An English translation of @revoltpress_hn’s original Hindi piece
Maharashtra’s Pune on Sunday, January 03, 2016, witnessed #ShivShaktiSangam, the largest gathering of RSS [Rashtriya Swavayamsevak Sangh], where over 150,000 of the Sangh’s volunteers had turned out in their full organizational attire. Central Minister Prakash Javadekar , Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and the Cabinet Secretary were also present at the conclave.
However, the biggest surprise at the gala event was the deafening silence on #PathankotAttack, especially considering the organization’s almost-daily dissemination of statements and commentaries regarding national security.
The meet organized at Pune’s Marunji is being hailed as the largest RSS gathering ever. At the event, the busts of Jyotibha Phule and Savitribai Phule were garlanded, and tributes were paid to Phules’ contributions to the society. Addressing the gathering, the Sarsanghchalak of RSS, Mohan Bhagwat said “Hindutva” meant tying all the diverse threads together.
Adding in the need to strengthen national integrity, Bhagwat suggested Hindus to seek lessons from Israelis’ resilience.
The event’s arrangements included a grand décor, and the stage was themed after King Shivaji’s Raigad fort
RSS leader Srirang Godbole said the event’s message is not political; however, the desire for an integral society could deliver political outcomes.
Although most volunteers present at the meet were from Western Maharashtra’s districts, it is arguably the Sangh’s biggest gathering of the decade.
