If you are planning Canada immigration and confused about how to get PR in Canada from India, do not worry. Canada offers various immigration programs but Express Entry stands out as the fastest way to move to Canada due to its quick processing times of 6 months.

Express Entry Canada has three streams under which you can apply as per your situation — the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP).

Whether you are starting your application or have received the ITA and then, confused about what to include in the application, keep reading to find out what documents, information, and other certificates to include for a successful Canada PR application.

Mandatory Documents for Canada Express Entry

According to IRCC — in most cases — the principal applicant, their spouse or common-law partner, and their dependent children, including non-accompanying children, must submit the following documentation:

1. Medical exam reports

The immigration department needs your medical exam report with your application to see if you and your family members are in good health.

Note, that as of October 1, 2023, an upfront medical exam is no longer required with your Express Entry application. Wait for the instruction from IRCC when you need to take the examination.

2. Police clearance certificates

You also need to provide a police clearance certificate with your PR application to prove that you have no criminal record. The certificate should be from all the countries you have stayed for 6 months or more consecutively within the past 10 years. If you are under 18, it is not required.

Submit the scanned copy of the original police certificate(s) in colour. Certified true copies and unauthorized copies are unacceptable.

3. Identity proof

Next, you are required to include a copy of your biographical data page of your passport or travel document. This will confirm that you are a real person who’s applying for a permanent residence visa.

4. Proof of work experience

During the Canada PR eligibility check, you provide credentials of your work experience. Now, when you submit the application, you need to provide proof of the work experience you claimed and validate that you meet program requirements.

The document checklist is personalized by IRCC for each applicant online and a field for each work experience is given. Listed below are the documents mandatory to submit for each work experience declared:

  • An experience or reference letter from your employer. This document must be printed on a company letterhead.
  • The letter must have all positions you worked for while employed at the company, including your job title, duties & responsibilities, job status, dates you worked for the company, no. of hours per week, and annual salary plus benefits.
  • If you are self-employed, submit articles of incorporation or proof of business ownership, proof of self-employment income and documents from third-party people showing the service you provided with payment details.

Other documents required for Express Entry

Here are the mandatory documents you only need to submit if they align with your circumstances of you or your dependents:

  • Birth certificate copy or another similar document. This is to prove your relationship with dependent children, if any.
  • Evidence of studies to confirm the educational credential claims and validate that you meet the program requirements.
  • Provincial or territorial certificate of qualification to authenticate your claim of having one.
  • Offer letter from an eligible employer in Canada to show your qualifying arranged employment offer. Also, make sure you meet the program requirements and avoid concerns of fraud.
  • Proof of funds to show you meet the low-income cut-off (LICO).
  • Use of a Representative form (IMM 5476) when hiring a representative to apply on your and your family’s behalf.
  • If married, submit a marriage certificate or proof of common-law relationship and cohabitation.
  • If divorced, a divorce certificate and legal separation agreements.
  • A death certificate to validate the claim of death of a spouse or common-law partner.
  • If you have adopted a child, submit an adoption certificate.

If you fail to provide the documents based on your situation, your Canada Express Entry profile will be considered incomplete.
