“A Night Out at trapXart”
Boy is it busy in the Bay. Seems like it’s always a ton of things going on. There are historic sports teams, fine arts, delicious food, and beautiful scenery. Making your weekend plans can become as challenging as the work week. With the Super Bowl in town things are bubbling over. There is a NFL frenzy and a full day of events. People living in the Bay Area work hard and hustle strong to maintain life in the Bay. For that, there is an abundance of options and activities all throughout the peninsula. You can party in the city, kick it in Oakland, or dive into some hidden gems and find a good time. Whatever your interest, the Bay has a place for you and a way to get there. Drive your car, ride the bus, hop on Bart, or call an Uber. There is more than one way to get to where you need to go.
Rain showered down onto the Bay for the majority of this particular Friday. The clouds carried light drops of rain up until the evening. It became a perfect night to get out the house. My Uber pulled up and pulled off. We crossed over the Bay Bridge to San Francisco for an event that has the Bay buzzing. TrapxArt. TrapxArt is a fabulous fusion of an art gallery, party, filled with Hip Hop culture, lead by a be your own boss attitude. These events are drizzled throughout the Bay Area. Each event showcases a tribute to a legendary artist while providing a place for expression. Some of the Bay’s brightest and most passionate artist come to TrapxArt. They come to build and boogie. But let’s not forget about the business. Each artist is lock and loaded with dope art, business cards, and a story to share. The building is packed with opportunities to meet and greet new people doing cool things.
My Uber arrived and I jumped out. The night was crisp and live. Downtown San Francisco was smothered with people coming and going. The air carried a nose grabbing smells of nearby restaurants detouring my attention as I looked for the entrance to TrapxArt. The creators of TrapxArt are Jesse and Amina Brooks. The creative married couple stood at the door welcoming everyone as they are entered. No overly aggressive security guard making you wait 20 minutes outside. Jesse and Amina greeting attendees of the event at the door, sets the tone for a comfortable. classy and fun filled night.
The scene defines lit. Artist are aligned throughout the venue. There are creative collectives of portraits, paintings, fashion, and jewelry. The open spacing and proper placements make it easy to check out each section. Artist are provided this opportunity to come set up shop free of cost! No fees, rules, or hassles, just a place to express yourself. TrapxArt also supports and promotes artist via the TrapxArt TV series . Sections are decorated and decked out with artwork and information. Each artist is friendly, personable, and willing to share the story behind their work. When attendees aren’t busy “oohing and aahhing” at the remarkable artwork, they hit the dance floor. Not an artist? No worries. TrapxArt is a good way to get out, hear good music, and meet some awesome people.
TrapxArt’s resident DJ’s are DJ Criddy & DJ Mujie. Both DJ’s have precise mixes and dope blends. The crowd never stopped moving. I squeezed ad excused my way through the plethora of people dancing and jamming the night away. I heard it all. Brand new Future, classic Bay hits, and some of the hottest songs out. Non stop, back to back Bay slappers. The speakers rang out with Cali tones and Bay drums. I saw all the dances, “Dabs”, and “Whips”. If you’re on the dance floor, your doing just that. People dancing like nobody is watching all in good fun with good vibes. There was dancing in groups, couples, and even solo. The show has an intimate and enjoyable party setting. It resembles partying with close friends, in an art gallery setting. The bar served up clean shots, good beer, and mixed cocktails. There was also room to step over and speak with an artist or just to grab a good view of the party.
TrapxArt success is in its consistency. Events occur on a monthly basis. Each event is rolled out on their Instagram page @TrapxArt. Once announced, an IG post shares the party details and information. The post also is always artwork of the upcoming artist and theme for the event. There is something fun about guessing which artist will be spotlighted at the next show. The next TrapxArt has already been announced and dated for February 12th, 2016 from 10pm to 2am. This time around they are paying tribute to the talented team from Harlem, ASAP Mob. It will be at Monroe (473 Broadway SF, CA) @djmujie & @djcriddy will be behind the Macbook screens. See you there!
