The Journey of Change…
I write this article finding myself re-energized in the hope of social justice in South Africa… The past few months have often felt like the conversations between the different ethnicities was not yielding results.. not bringing an immediate change as i had imagined... perhaps hoped... for no reason either than one bad/ignorant encounter with a white person casts a shadow of doubt over all, regardless of works… the human defect when appreciating spaces and journeys… for that reason felt that my ability to be patient with the process had reached its boiling point, I was a bomb waiting to explode.
Today as I sat in the monthly social justice group meeting, I realized three things as various people shared stories of their past and present, as questions were asked, the request for guidance in the handling of various racial situations and admissions being made… I found myself hopeful,
- We are in this journey together.
- There is a role for all of us to play in the healing process.
- There is a genuine pursuit by white fellow countryman to see social justice and an inclusive South Africa realized for all who live in it.
This was reassuring, if nothing else.
The anger subsided… hope began to rise and my patience filled up… its an immeasurable journey … of insurmountable size… there are stop and go’s along the way… that may eventually become tiresome while waiting…
There are no guarantees nor time frame for this journey of change.
Its a big unknown… my conviction resting heavily on the prospect of hope.
