The WEST mistook the world’s admiration for submission,
Figured since their guns were bigger; the World was theirs.
Or God told ’em, or the goal of gold on their minds,
The Midas touch, the gold mines
Stripping the riches from our clutches,
Moved heaven and earth and replaced with land mines.
Black gold to fuel their revolutions, robbing the graves of evolution,
When they belly full, throw away the scraps
Got the rest of the people begging/scrapping for what’s left,
Our kids play in their waste, breathing up their pollution.
My carbon footprint is big, overdependence on infrastructure,
My burden of guilt is outweighed by the burdens of people who smile even while they suffer.
Can I make the best of technologies and still make sure there’s a planet and air for my future to breathe.
The mistakes of the past, by leaders we revere.
The greed that still lasts, and those hungry that we fear.
Sown seeds of democracy, in lands that are not ours.
Watered by the slaver of preying dogs.
But trust, they cover up their mouths and borders
When black plaques threaten their status quo,
Only open up their wallet when celebs give their orders
Our humanity reduced to a 15-second reality show.
Paper chasing like a ticker tape parade, collecting coins like an arcade game.
Using our collective influence to power the media cycle.
The pounding of chests and fist to inspire power,
Transformed to hashtags, a la carte activism by the hour.
We took off running when you thought it was a rat race,
Only after seeing these crossroads before, we realize we’re trapped in a maze.
On a quest for cheese, providing entertainment for others.
And that race that they assigned us, and we extrapolate our experiences,
Was based on false science… like the world is flat.
Merely a device used to divide us, to justify their fears and hate.
A human errs, the divine forgive… but time moves forward regardless of heavenly state.
We’re human,
Strong in will, body, mind and spirit.
Resilient and driven by self-preservation.
It may seem that oceans lie between I and you,
We only need to redefine the notion of self.
