Loving these articles, and Sheila’s reply also more free education and much appreciated, not least because I’ve never quite understood (till now) how Bertrams, Gardners and Coutts were all the things they’re supposed to be. Keep going. There are new small publishers all the time, and nearly all of us are self-taught, which means learning (or not learning actually) the hardest way.
And all this HAS to turn itself into a book. Jamie, you write so well that it’s patently clear you’re a writer/publisher, not just a publisher. Which in due course may make your life more complicated but also better. If I were a publisher who made a profit, I would want to get you on my (and in my) books.
(At some point you might discuss the sorts of profit that aren’t financial. In poetry publishing, I think those explain many activities that no logical sense could otherwise account for.)
