Why trays of chocolates surround the billing desks at supermarkets?

I had read this in some book — you will find the billing desks at the supermarkets will usually be surrounded with trays containing chocolates, toffee or something that people crave for. They can be mint gums or even a bar of Kit-Kat.

Well, the supermarkets keep such items that entice you and make you buy. I had been to supermarkets from six years in the least and had never observed the trend. However, from a month or so, I have started noticing such details. The bottom-line is this — the supermarkets, like the advertisements are designed to affect us.

They have the psychological backing. Of course, they have hard evidence to support the research for they make more profits every time a kid who was not suppose to buy the chocolates bought a bar.
