Thanks, Sean! I’d add that Sufjan Stevens’ Carrie and Lowell is probably the most directly relevant work to address this issue, and I have listened to it many times in the last few years. FWIW, he was a classics major and this album is filled with references to Greco-Roman literature. Again, we have to look to reception of antiquity to find what I’m talking about.
