The Titanic Journey of Billionaires: An update of a concepts interpreting of wealth and risks
This spectacular event is to become a unique journey of a group of billionaires to the world’s most famous shipwreck, the Titanic, in June 2023. This disastrous mission, sponsored by the American company OceanGate Expeditions, raised a great interest because of the dangers implied and because of its fatal outcome. That was the idea – the fusion of daring, creativity and legacy of inventiveness -, it then turned into the embodiment of man’s aspiration and failure of technology.
The Titanic Wreck: A Billionaire’s Obsession
The RMS Titanic that covered fame in April of 1912 now lies at an approximate underwater depth of 12,500 feet in the North Atlantic ocean. In the course of the decades it has taken on the aspects of a symbol of man’s inventiveness and his fall. So, for the remaining part of the population, being a wrecker means appreciating history, while for the wealthy it means chasing great experiences.
OceanGate Expeditions was selling the Titan submersible seat for $250,000 per seat where the Titan is a 22-foot long submersible for deep sea diving. Among the passengers were major international billionaires such as tycoon Hamish Harding, a British businessman and explorer, and Shahzada Dawood, a Pakistani billionaire businessman with his son, Suleman.
