How do Humans connect through technology?

How do we communicate through technology? Does it get better as the technology improves? What are the ethical issues behind it?

As technology improves, our communication with others also increases. New technology gives us the opportunity to connect with more people. Back in the days, the most common way to communicate was sending letters. That was the way people communicated with each other and that was their best form of communication. As technology improved, we moved on from sending letters as a form of communication through sending emails on a computer. This gave us the opportunity to communicate with more people and it was also a quicker way of communication. With sending letters through mail, you would have to wait the person to:

  1. Receive the letter.
  2. Read the letter.
  3. Write a new letter to send back.
  4. Send the new letter.

It takes 4 steps to communicate with someone through a letter. Whereas sending an email through a computer where the person could easily bring it up on their computer and reply instantly. Sending emails as a way to communicate with others became the next “Big thing”. Emailing others was a good form of communication when wanting to reach out to family or friends who lived in different parts of the world.

However, technology further advanced and we were introduced to social media websites like Facebook where sharing photos and talking to family and friends from over the world became even easier. Just when we thought that we could easily communicate with others, it became even easier with Facebook and Skype. Skype is a good way to talk others from around the world as it is a live video call. Although Facebook and Skype could become dangerous to the younger generations who can become friends with anyone on Facebook and start chatting. Which could turn into sharing other personal details.

The advancement in technology helps us reach out to those who live in different parts of the world. It helps us stay connected to those we could easily lose touch with. Even though it can become dangerous, it is outweighed by the positives of connecting with family and friends from all over the world. It has also become a quicker way of communicating instead of waiting for the old letter to come through.
