NCI offers a solution to regional advanced manufacturers in need of quick training, CNC Operator Course. This is an introductory course designed to take students with little to no machining experience and provide them with the hands-on experience needed to turn them into operators capable of setting up, programming, and running CNC machining equipment. The course meets three times a week for four weeks and is led by NCI’s Advanced Manufacturing Technician, Trevor Martin.

Trevor Martin (left) and Brian Pace (right) recently developed hands-on instruction for machinists from Worley Machine Enterprises in Woolwine, VA.

Based on input from local industry partners, the course focuses on the following skills:

· Converting, adding, and subtracting fractions and decimals

· Ruler/tape measure, dial caliper, and micrometer reading

· Standard industrial setting safety procedures

· Basic machining principles and tooling types

· Haas mill and lathe setup, control navigation, and operation

· Introduction to G-Code/EIA programming

· Renishaw Probing System for Work Coordinate System and tool setup

The next course offering will begin in January, 2020. For more information or to register for our next class, contact Brian Pace at 276–403–5618.
