Did I just figure out who is coming to WVU’s FallFest?

Spoiler: probably.

Shout out to West Virginia University’s college newspaper, The Daily Athenaeum. I spent a lot of time there, and their photographers always impressed. Especially this shot by talented Kyle Monroe from FallFest 2014.

Let’s be clear, this is just a prediction. I don’t have any secret information that you guys don’t have. No one from WVU gave me any special tips — and trust me, I asked days in advance if anyone could sneak me the lineup.

Actually, no one I’ve seen on Twitter claims they know for sure who is playing at WVU’s annual concert kicking off the beginning of the fall semester. I’m posting this at almost 1 a.m. on Friday morning, just hours before the lineup should come out. There’s usually quite a bit more speculation at this point, and at least a few stray students who claim they know for sure. It doesn’t seem that way this time.

So who do I think is going to come? Well, I’m guessing two artists will perform. Yep, only two. I can’t narrow down who the second artist is, but if I was a betting man, I’d put all my chips on the first artist being…

FLOSSTRADAMUS

Never heard of these guys? Me neither. It appears that they don’t make it over to this side of the country that often — they’re usually over playing in Las Vegas somewhere.

They’ve been described as a “raucous trap DJ duo,” and they just released a new album called “Came Up.

The duo is made up of Josh Young and Curt Cameruci. They were born and bred in Chicago, the place they found their love of music. Here’s how a website called HIGHSNOBIETY described them during a Q&A a few days ago:

The duo’s reverberating mashup of EDM, sprinkled liberally with Southern trap tropes, is exactly the kind of scintillating, high octane fuel a bacchanal-inclined college kid (or anyone really) needs to justify stumbling out of a party well after dawn has broken…”

Based on what I’ve seen of their performances, that sums them up pretty well.

This was the most recent video for Flosstradamus’ YouTube account.

So what does Flosstradamus sound like? Well, I’ll let you decide for yourself. Personally, I’m a fan of “Soundclash,” but what do I know?

Let’s talk about the second artist. I really scratched my brain about who could fill that slot. Like I’ve said, I only think two artists will perform at this year’s concert.

HOW DID I REACH THIS CONCLUSION?

Good question. I combed through a bunch of vendor payments through WVU to see if they had paid any entertainment companies or touring groups. There’s the small chance I could have missed one, but I double-checked the list of payments twice. I didn’t follow through and see what every payment went through, but I only looked at payments greater than $25,000 and payments to groups that sounded like they might be related to a concert. Here’s what I found: two payments on Aug. 2, one to Flosstradamus and one to William Morris Endeavor Entertainment.

A friend of mine (not an employee of WVU) said he knows for sure there are three artists. I’m not sure how he knows that, but it could be that I missed one vendor payment, or maybe the William Morris Endeavor Entertainment payment is for two artists? We’ll see.

To try and figure out who else is playing, I first tried to look at the list of artists William Morris Endeavor Entertainment represents. Long story short, that list is huge. I tried to narrow it down to its artists performing near Morgantown on the day of FallFest, but I couldn’t narrow it down.

So, it could be any number of artists found here. I can’t say for sure who it will be, but I can take a wild guess.

BRAD PAISLEY?

Okay, this could be a long shot. WME Entertainment does represent Brad Paisley. And he is a West Virginia native, born in Glen Dale. After the late-June floods destroyed many homes in the state and killed more than 20, he came home to help clean up the mess the water left behind.

Paisley conveniently does have room in his schedule to stop by West Virginia for a surprise concert in front of thousands of screaming Mountaineers. Maybe he’s working for a discounted rate since its his home state?

Another option, though maybe a bit less exciting, is Eric Paslay. He’s also represented by WME Entertainment and he’s got a concert close to Pittsburgh with Toby Keith on Saturday. Although, I have a little bit of a hard time believing that Brad Paisley would be paid just as much as Flosstradamus…

There is one person I know, despite the rumors that will go around tomorrow, who is not playing at FallFest: Drake.

I remember when I was still a student at WVU, waiting for the FallFest 2015 lineup to come out, everyone seemed so sure it was him. As much as WVU students would probably like Drake to come perform, it’s not going to happen. I’m gonna guess that there will be rumors going around that, because he has a concert in Pittsburgh the day after FallFest, that maybe by some slim chance he’s playing for WVU. Nope. He has a concert in Detroit the night of FallFest.

What do you all think about Flosstradamus? Any last-minute guesses on who the second artist is, and possibly the third? Tweet me.

Thanks for reading! Until the lineup comes out sometime today, feel free to follow me on all the usual social media doodads to keep up to date with my work: Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. (And, don’t forget to follow my friends over at the Charleston Gazette-Mail.)

Note: I updated this a little bit more after I realized Paisley is represented by WME Entertainment.
