For those of you that have been following the Nexergy journey, you will know that our team is driven by our mission to bring about a more equitable and sustainable energy sector. We are inspired by the opportunities that new technologies and approaches — like local energy trading — provide in achieving this goal, but we have been disillusioned by the pace of change in the sector to date…
Since founding Nexergy we have constantly sought ways to get a real product to market as quickly as possible. Not just a trial or desktop study, as is the industry standard for evolving new technologies, but a way for customers to start trading and tangibly experience its benefits — and not just in some hypothetical way. That has meant working out how to deliver the service within the current regulatory environment and offering a product without relying on potential future regulatory changes or experimenting in temporary regulatory “sandboxes.”
Which is why we’re super excited to announce that we’ve partnered with community energy retailer Energy Locals for the Nexergy preview release!
In the coming weeks we be announcing details of the Nexergy Ready plan. It’s a great way for people who are interested in seeing local energy trading become a reality to demonstrate their support in a meaningful way.
Through the plan, our early backers will not only get a great deal, but by signing up you will also be helping bring about a fairer energy system in three, important ways, by enabling us to:
- integrate energy usage data into our platform as we develop it, so that we can optimise the platform in real-world conditions (prior to launch)
- refine the platform through customer feedback on early versions of the platform and related apps to provide maximum benefit to our customers
- demonstrate support for local energy trading when we talk to partners, industry and regulators, as we drive to return even more value back to our customers
As a values-led business, it was really important to us to find a retail partner that has values aligned with ours. Through our early conversations with CEO, Adrian Merrick and the rest of the Energy Locals team, it became clear to us that they’re not just any old retailer. Their motto of “cheaper, fairer and cleaner” might well have come straight out of our own mission statement! And it’s backed up by their actions: transparent pricing, never increasing prices for profit, and 50% of their profits going to charities and community energy projects. We view their support of local energy trading as indicative of their commitment to achieving real change within the sector, and an ambition to make changes to the sector for the better.
We very much appreciate the support we’ve received from Energy Locals so far, and we look forward to continuing our work with them to realise the promise of local energy trading for our customers.
