How I saved money by shopping once a week
Like normal people
Like most people’s parents, mine had “food shopping day.” Once a week, stock up on whatever’s been eaten.
I didn’t do this for the longest time. My grocery store trips were a little more like:
“Well, I need a green pepper. And an onion. Ooh, look, the cookies are on sale. Can’t have cookies without ice cream. Welp, since this night is ruined might as well grab a beer.” And the trip would fall into shambles.
After spending $20 a day at the grocery store for 3 straight days (it was usually every other, or every 3 days that I would spend $20), I tried something different.
I had the novel idea of buying groceries all at once.
I went from spending $100 a week on groceries to $40.
Have you read those articles that sound like “5 ways to save money” or “5 millennial money-saving ways” because people like sticking millennial into every headline? They all have things like “Stop buying avocados and $15 frappuccinos.” For someone like me, who didn’t have money to spend on anything because he sucked at budgeting at the grocery store, these lists were useless.
So what’s the point of this post? What product or website am I pushing? Nothing! I just wanted to tell someone that when I started planning out my meals and buying things all at once, I actually started saving money.
