Elite: Dangerous, Is It Worth the Money?

**Disclaimer, this does NOT include all of the addons in the full Elite:Dangerous Horizons, this is the base game**

Of course this question would be difficult to answer, as what one person prefers in comparison to someone else’s can be drastically different. But I believe Elite: Dangerous has something for just about everyone, except maybe people who are sick of the Sci-Fi genre (which I can’t blame you for) but it’s on the rise, so it’s hard to avoid them a this point.

Gameplay.

Elite: Dangerous is a First-Person space ship simulator. The universe in which the game takes place in is harsh, with millions of Commanders just like you roaming the the game, and either spend their time trading, exploring, mining, or all around minding their own business, but of course their are plenty who are pirates. They spend most of their time getting in your way, fighting you for your cargo, or killing you for fun. But there are also righteous souls who hunt down pirates, for Credits (yeah I know, every Sci-Fi games uses Credits too.) And along with that, pirates also have to deal with police everywhere except unexplored or places under anarchy. As you may imagine, being a pirate is VERY dangerous, but it also has some of the largest rewards. And after you earn enough money (how ever you did it) you can buy a bigger or faster ship, and repeat the same play style you had before, or change it up. Plus hundreds of armour, weapon and internal modifications can be made. You can do this hundreds of times in a row if you want, slowly gaining more and more. If you start getting bored, join a cause like the Fuel Rats, a group who has a website in which you can call a member anywhere and anytime to assist of you have ran out of fuel.

Graphics.

Elite: Dangerous is a beautiful game, with plenty of reds, blues purples and greens to add highlights against the black background of space. The game also has great texture work, with only a few asteroids having slightly blurry textures.

Sound.

With nice calming music when traveling between point A to point B, and fast paced yet not dominating music when in a hot pursuit of a enemy, it’s great. Also, the thud of your own weapons and the sound of rounds bouncing and penetrating your ship at no where short of splendid.

Final Score

I’d give this game a 8/10. The game has plenty to offer, and for a cheap price, but the fact that they don’t have Horizons on Xbox One yet, and the fact that in the end it is another Sci-Fi game in a quickly over saturating market, and the no VR support on Xbox (the primary way to the play the base game) takes away 2 points. All around though, I highly recommend buying the game.
