Bernie Sanders— Accessory to How Many Deaths? -to Visit Freddie Gray Youth Center

Gun control won’t work, according to Bernie Sanders in 1993.

Bernie Sanders is about to pay a visit the “Freddie Gray Empowerment Center” in Baltimore — which will doubtless result in the media pumping out bogus stories blaming Martin O’Malley for what happened last spring. But in truth, Bernie’s votes on some very important matters are doubtless more to blame for African-American deaths, than were O’Malley’s policies as Mayor. In fact, O’Malley’s policies actually saved Black lives.

How many African-Americans have been shot and killed since Bernie Sanders voted to give gun dealers immunity in 2005? How many have lost their lives to gun violence since Bernie voted to end CDC research into gun violence in 1996? How many have been killed by police officers since he voted for the 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act? How many have been killed since he voted against the Brady Bill five times?

Anyway, after you stop cursing me for criticizing Bernie’s record on gun control, and also for implying he has been clueless on the subject, I have a favor to ask. It’s this. Please don’t believe the stories that will resurface blaming Martin O’Malley for recent violence in Baltimore. The truth is he was a great Mayor as evidenced by the fact that the people there re-elected him by what must be a record vote. Please also don’t believe he put 100,000 people in jail. Partly in response to the 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act that Bernie voted for, there were already 89,000 arrests per year in Baltimore before Martin O’Malley was first elected Mayor. Yes he raised that arrest number by 29%, and then he lowered it back down to roughly the number he inherited when he was first elected Mayor. But, for the most part, the Baltimore police were arresting the same people over and over again. Read my story entitled “The Bum Rap Against Martin O’Malley”, and you’ll get the picture.

Or maybe you’ll just go on blissfully feeling the bern, and believing great works of fiction. That’s your decision.

Unfortunately, though, it could result in hundreds of thousands more lives being lost to gun violence. Sleep well.
