Germany — Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom), Domkloster 4, 50667, Cologne, Germany

A stunning building

August 2017

Cologne Cathedral (Kölner Dom) is a stunning building.

The cathedral is next to the Rhine River in Cologne and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The cathedral dates from 1248 and wasn’t completed until 1880–632 years! Unbelievable.

Cologne was heavily bombed during World War 2, and the cathedral was hit at least 14 times. The surrounding streets were reduced to rubble, but the cathedral somehow survived. Repair work on the cathedral was completed in 1956.
