Intramuros is supposedly the old section of Manila. But, apart from the original city wall and the San Agustin Church, everything else within the city wall seemed modern. Even the Cathedral, which looks old, was only built in the 1950s. And there was a reason for this.

The Intramuros area was a site of a series of massacres by the Imperial Japanese Armed Forces in February 1945.

Massacre sites — Intramuros

  • Fort Santiago
  • San Francisco Church
  • Lourdes Church
  • Santo Domingo Church
  • Recoletos Church
  • San Agustin Church
  • San Juan De Dios Hospital
  • Santa Rosa College
  • Plaza Roma Air Raid Shelter

And these are remembered at the Shrine of Freedom | Memorare Manila Monument, Manila, Philippines.
