On an information board near the War Memorial, there was mention of a local museum and an App — Timespan — on the area’s history. I decided to visit the museum and download the App to follow the trail.

When I started the trail, the weather wasn’t great; it was pouring rain; hence, I didn’t take many photos.

The trail runs for 25 miles (ca. 40 km) in a northwesterly direction up the Strath of Kildonan, and along the route, I learnt about the history of Helmsdale and the Highland Clearances. The area has a fascinating history stretching back some 6,000 years. On the route, there are ten markers.

I found my first marker near a curious-looking building and Helmsdale Castle’s site.

Marker number 1 — Emigrant’s Memorial

Marker number 1 was at ///indicated.troll.chucks, which was near the Emigrant’s Memorial.

The bio is always the difficult bit. I’m a geek, a traveller and a photographer. I’ll be writing about blogging and my travels, plus the occasional ‘tech’ post.
