Something more like this: “Once Davis finds herself in the middle of court summons and misdemeanor charges, she finds it nearly impossible to defend herself, even with a lawyer. However, the larger issue here is that she is white and the other Lisa Davis—whom she eventually meets—is black, and because of that is disproportionately targeted by police for offenses like driving with a broken taillight or crossing a park at 10 p.m.”
