This concept – competing and cooperating simultaneously – is called “coopetition”. It often occurs at the micro and meso levels of corporate ecosystems.

Thus in general (macro), Netflix and Amazon Prime are arch rivals. But at the meso level, Amazon (AWS) cooperates with Netflix (all or most of the microservices) and thereby creates a mutually beneficial (win-win) situation.
