Kinda jumping to a bit of an extreme there.. Also, mislead by omission/exaggeration.
For now, it has nothing to do with the elimination of cash. That’s a pipe-dream to consider maybe decades from now.. Unconditional Basic Income is both a reaction to a world of constant technological progress and rapid job-obsolescence, as well as a policy that has been rightfully suggested by relatively conservative politicians going back decades, because it’s the best way to eliminate the lowest levels of poverty, and eliminates many of the wastes of our current bloated systems.
UBI is about addressing poverty better than ever before, in a way that actually works, and reshapes the balance between employee and employer, which results in a better outcome for BOTH. And it creates a whole new meaning to productivity in our lives, allowing people to do the necessary family/personally-productive things in life, that don’t earn a paycheck.
It’s about keeping capitalism/economy more balanced.. Because obviously what we’ve been doing isn’t working right, as seen in the disgusting wealth inequality that just keeps getting worse.
How else can we address income/wealth inequality, that is only getting horribly worse, as our country is seemingly getting more wealthy than ever? We need to find a good policy that addresses poverty, and this issue, and so far, UBI has been the only good idea suggested by anyone. Ignoring things will result in chaos/collapse/crashes.
