Most elaborate version of this I’ve seen recently is the campaign by Facebook. How much did they spend on domain name, TV, internet ads anyway? And the media run doesn’t really reveal their real motive at all (I get thats kind of the point) — To connect more of the world to internet, but make it a Facebook centric version of the net to boost Ad revenue.
