Hey No Longer supporters!

August 22 is a big day on No Longer’s calendar… Casa Amor opened its doors three years ago TODAY! We have seen God do amazing things in the lives of orphaned children, Dominican church members and supporters of No Longer. Pastor Altagracia calls it “beautiful work for the children,” and we thank you for supporting No Longer since the beginning of this journey five years ago. To celebrate three years of caring for kids in need is truly seeing the body of Christ at its best. We thank you!

Now, on to the summer update! It has been an exciting few months for the kids at Casa Amor. Summer is still in full swing in the Dominican, and the kids have used their time to attend summer church camps and other fun experiences.

First, we had two local groups visit Casa Amor in June. The youth group from Argo Christian Fellowship spent a week working with the kids, leading devotions and playing lots and lots of basketball and baseball. The following week, the First Baptist Church Trussville Student Ministry was able to visit for a couple of days. Some of the students had visited last summer and were able to reconnect with the friends they made last year. The kids at Casa Amor enjoy these visits so much because the kids from the States are teenagers like so many of them are. Teenagers are all the same, no matter what language they speak!

Next up for the Casa Amor kids was a trip to a church camp with Pastor Altagracia and other kids from their church. The opportunity to spend a few nights away from Casa Amor is a treat. We hope it was an awesome time for the kids to grow and learn incredible new things.

The Kansas City Royals Dominican Academy Team has taken a special interest in Casa Amor. The partnership with the organization has developed into something we never would have imagined when we met them a year and a half ago. They invited the kids to tour their facilities, eat lunch in the clubhouse and watch a game. The kids were treated like VIPs all day!

On top of that VIP treatment, the Royals have consistently sent out a few players a couple of times a week to see the kids at Casa Amor and spend time with them. They put on a baseball camp of sorts for the boys. Just think, the next David Ortiz could be in this group of kids. We can’t say enough about the incredible partnership the Royals have with No Longer and Casa Amor. They continue to pour into the kids and meet needs. They purchased new mattresses for the beds and are already making plans for a Christmas surprise. We have become Royals’ fans for life!

Please continue to support No Longer by praying for the kids at Casa Amor. We would love to report everything is nice, neat and perfect. However, caring for these kids can sometimes be disappointing and messy. The reality is that many of the kids are fighting their wiring and dealing with a past that follows them from being orphaned at such a young age. They don’t always respond or behave the way we would expect them to or hope they would. Pray they will not lose hope and will see the bright future God has in store for them. They are each dearly loved and we pray for them to know it and believe it.

UPCOMING TRIPS

We are taking our first family mission trip through First Baptist Church Trussville to Casa Amor in October. The trip will primarily consist of families from FBCT, but the families have children of all ages! It will be our second big trip (ACF being the first) through No Longer to Casa Amor. We are excited to see another group spend a week building relationships. We will be collecting items to send with the group, so be on the lookout for that through social media. If you have something special you would like to send with the group, please let us know!

If you have interest in taking a trip to Casa Amor to meet and visit the kids, please send a message to us. We would love the opportunity to set up a mission trip for others to meet the amazing and beautiful kids and staff at Casa Amor!

UPCOMING BIRTHDAYS

Ana Carmen will be SIX on September 9!

Emil will be TWELVE on October 3!

Thanks for reading and sharing,
