I’ve had social media, and I’ve had none. Medium, the only platform I currently use, is a form of it. Success is not having to be connected and social media shouldn’t be a prerequisite for any occupation. But even as a writer, where there is a built-in expectation for contrarian eccentricities, the amount of “You know people land book deals on Twitter” and “How do you function without it” conversations is astounding.
