It’s not uncommon to see an energy drink company sponsor an athlete. However, they typically stick to athletes competing in “extreme sports”. I’m talking BMX, skating, snowboarding, etc. Almost never do we see an athlete in a team sport pick up an energy drink sponsorship or brand deal.

Jaden McDaniels is looking to break the energy drink barrier by becoming the first NBA player to have a full sponsorship and brand deal with Monster Energy. The news comes just days after McDaniels fractured his right hand in the Timberwolves last regular season game of the season.

After receiving his second foul of the game late in the first quarter, McDaniels headed towards the team locker room. In a sign of frustration, he punched the wall in the team tunnel and started to grab at his right hand immediately after. The X-rays confirmed that Jaden had fractured his right hand and would be ruled out for the rest of the playoffs.

Monster Energy’s marketing team was made aware of the situation and knew they had to step in. Kyle, the head of marketing at Monster, had this to say about McDaniels.

“If I’m being honest, I haven’t watched an NBA game since the LinSanity era. But when I saw the video of Jaden punching the wall, I knew right away that we had our guy. Look at the form and how quickly he clutches his hand. You can tell he knew right away that he made a huge mistake. That’s what we’re all about here at Monster — making impulse decisions when you’re angry and immediately regretting it.”

Kyle went on to praise McDaniels for not restraining himself in the slightest. He added that the company thought of bringing Rudy Gobert in on the brand deal, but decided against it because they didn’t want to promote bad sportsmanship.

“Our athletes won’t be known for inciting violence against their own teammates. We’re all about punching over here at Monster, but we like to stick to the WWW rule — Walls & Weak Women”

Included in McDaniels brand deal is a lifetime supply of Monster Energy (sugar-free), 10 packs of Hanes wife beaters, and two pairs of cut-off denim shorts.
