The Salvation Army is a national charitable organization dedicated to assisting those in need in a number of areas. Founded in the late 1800s, the non-profit now operates over 7000 care centers throughout the United States, and operates internationally as well. As an organization with such a large reach, the Salvation Army has a multitude of programs available for those in poverty or struggling with other issues.
One of the Salvation Army’s more well-known service projects is its Christmas Assistance program. Christmas Assistance refers to the needs of seniors, people who are homeless, and families who cannot afford presents or food for their children. Volunteers at the Salvation Army take time in the months leading up to Christmas to stand outside of stores, malls, and other public spaces in order to raise money to support these people in different ways, and allow them to also enjoy the Christmas season.
